Culturally Responsive EMDR Therapy

We understand that trauma can be shaped by racism, discrimination, migration, intergenerational pain, and cultural expectations. My approach combines trauma-informed care with cultural humility, creating a healing space where your identity, history, and lived experiences are fully respected. Through EMDR therapy, we help you process painful memories, reduce emotional distress, and reconnect with your inner resilience while honouring your culture and values.

What Is EMDR Therapy?

Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) is an evidence-based psychotherapy that helps people heal from trauma, anxiety, and distressing life experiences.

During EMDR, you’ll engage in a process called bilateral stimulation, which often involves moving your eyes back and forth, tapping, or listening to alternating sounds. These rhythmic movements help your brain reprocess stuck or painful memories so they can be stored in a more balanced, less distressing way.

It’s important to note that the eye movements alone aren’t what make EMDR effective; it’s the entire eight-phase process, including preparation, emotional safety, and therapeutic connection, that creates lasting healing. While EMDR has been shown to be effective for many people, it may not be suitable for everyone or for all types of trauma. In our discussion together, we’ll determine whether it’s the right approach for your specific situation.

Why Culturally Responsive EMDR Matters

Healing cannot be separated from identity and the experiences that are woven into it. As your therapist, I bring cultural humility, anti-oppressive practice, and awareness of systemic trauma into every phase of EMDR.

Together, we honour the ways culture, race, language, identity, spirituality, and community shape both the pain you carry and the way you heal. Whether you’re working through racial trauma, cultural expectations, or intergenerational wounds, my approach centers your lived experience, wisdom, and voice.
